Puke Hill. The trail is gorgeous looking out over the valley and all the lakes but the first mile is brutal. I ran all the way to the top of the hills (even if walking would've been faster) and my legs felt like jello. We went out 6 miles and back. Later I ran 4 miles.

Last hill workout and my hips and quads were so sore. We went through two parks and ran 10 hill loops in one of them and met back at Cottonwood Complex. We ran 4 sets of Bessie up to the fence and back down and ran 3.5 cool down. I am really tired from hill week and glad it is over.

Well Sarah Sargent and I finished a solid 5 day hill week with our run at girls camp. We were staying at a cabin up Big Cottonwood Canyon. I figured we would just run up the canyon a couple miles then come back.  I was going really slow and it felt like forever. We ran 3.5 up to Silver Lake and ran a lap around on the board walk (which was gorgeous) then ran back down. It was so much steeper than I thought as I was running down but we finished our 8 miles before everyone else even woke up.

Last run to finish mileage and I went on the flattest course as possible. My legs aren't as sore so I was able to push the pace finally.

Cemetery run at Sugarhouse. We did 10 sets of minute on, minute off fartlek in the cemetery. Felt pretty good, just a little sore.

We had our bingo run today at Liberty Park. We never figured out who won because we went straight to breakfast but that was ok. I got 8 miles in the morning. Later I ran another 5.

Morning- I met with one of the new BYU freshman runners for a run. We ran at Liberty park and ran a 30 minute tempo. I got about 2.5 miles warm up then we ran about 4.25 tempo. We didn't go too fast  (we were talking the whole time) and averaged 6:55. I ran a cool down to 8. At night I met with Susannah and we ran another 5 together.

Bike and run 2012- I was on a team with Chris again and we were competing against Sarah and Tomy. We were pretty close for the first 6 miles. It is hard to switch between running and biking because my legs were really sore and tight. But Chris and I won!  My 5 miles running averaged 6:45 and I counted the biking as 2 miles. Chris, Tomy and I ran another 5 miles to get 12. Later I ran 4 more with Sarah and Abigail.

Met at Liberty Park again. We ran along 500 E. to Granite High. We ran 4 laps speed changes and went back to the park. My calves and quads were really sore from all the biking.

Easy 6 miles on the Hobble Creek Canyon trail. I was camping up the canyon for a family reunion so I just went out three and back on the trail.

Morning speed workout. We ran 2.5 warm up then 4 laps speed changes on the East Track. There were a lot of painful memories running speed on the track again. Luckily now that it is XC season I don't have to run as fast. We ran 12 400's with standing recovery between each one. My first was was 84, a little slow. # 7, 10-12 were all 79 and the rest were all 80- right where I wanted to be. It was a pace I could handle for the full workout but still worked me. I ran 3.5 cool down. That night was my dad's YSA stake 5K at Sugarhouse Park  so I went to run. I ran a mile warm up before the race and a mile cool down after. We just ran 2 road laps so it wasn't too bad. I got out fast and after the first mile was pushing alone (2 guys were way ahead of me) I didn't feel too bad and felt like I pushed the whole race. It was a full 3.1 on my Garmin and my time was 18:48.

I felt great last night but not this morning.... My hamstrings were really tight and my calves sore so I had a slower 10 mile run.

Workout at Liberty Park. We ran a warm up then ran 10 sets of minute on-minute off fartlek around the pond. My quads and hips were really sore so it was hard to push to where I should be. 4 mile cool down.

Sunnyside- we started with a warm up then did 3 circuits, 10 strides and 2 800's around the grass. Both my 800's were 2:38 and if went by faster than on a track. We ran the Shriners run to get to 12. The last 1.25 Tomy and picked up the pace to 6:05 just to finish it off.

First day of XC camp! We met early Monday morning to do physicals etc. I ran 6 miles on the trail with a group of other freshmen. After arriving in Park City, we did another group run on a trail by where we were staying and I ran another 6. I felt pretty good. It is a big change running with a group of 30 instead of like 5....

Today was a hard workout- threshold run- and I didn't really know what to expect so I was pretty nervous. We ran 2 miles easy warm up then ran the threshold along the rail trail. Starting out, we were all in a big group and I felt really crowded in. But I reminded myself to be patient and push the whole time, not just do what the group does. My first mile was 6:09 and I decided to push and match the second mile. My second mile was 6:09 and I was feeling pretty good. I was moving up as the group started spreading out. My third mile was 6:00 and we finished at 3.7 miles (supposedly it was only 2.5.....) My final time was 22:30 and I finished the workout close behind the lead girls. I didn't feel too bad and felt good that I knew I pushed my best. I ran a cool down to get to 8 and iced my legs for 10 minutes. Later I ran another 5 miles with another group.

Recovery day- I ran 8 in the morning. I finally got a stick which is great to use after runs. I have decided to get better at stretching, icing and rolling right after runs so my legs will feel better and I won't get injured. Later I ran another 4.

Another recovery day. We ran on a rail trail by Coalsville. I ran 8 in the morning and another 4 later. My hamstrings have been sore and tight all week and today they finally felt a bit better.

Tempo run for the week. We ran it along Jeremy Ranch road which I know pretty well. We ran a warm up of almost 2 miles. There were SO many cows wandering around and running with us, and in front of us. Kinda scary... Then we started the tempo. The team stayed in a tight group for the first 2.5 miles. It is a different experience running tempo with a big group instead of one or two other people. I stuck with the big group and about mile 4.5 on the road I seperated the big group and went with the lead group. The big hills after mile 5 were really brutal but it helped to chase girls down and push with them. The tempo was 5.37 long and I averaged 6:27. I felt pretty good again. I know that I pushed myself the best that I could and I was glad I knew the road and what was coming. I ran 3 miles cool down to get to 10. XC camp was not as scary as I thought it would be and was so fun!

Easy run on my own today. I just moved into my new dorm so I ran around campus measuring how far places are from my dorm. (the locker rooms .81 and 90 stairs across campus) Next week we start practice and I am pretty excited!

Team try-outs... or team FHE today. I ran a 2 mile warm up with a couple strides before starting. We ran 3x1600 at 5:45 with 5 minutes recovery between sets. The first one I felt really good. I moved up in the group so I could finish on pace (5:44) I jogged a 200 before the second. My time was 5:46 and after the second I jogged a 400. The third one I could feel pain, but it was not too bad. Running with a big group all going the same speed helped a lot. I finished at 5:45 and did another lap. I didn't feel too horrible after- though it was blazing hot. I ran a long cool down to get to 10.

Hill workout today. We ran up to the temple and did the temple hill loops. We would run hard up to the cone (about .25) on the grass then kept jogging around the temple block to the hill again. Each loop was one mile. We ran 5 total. I didn't feel too great running up the hill-it was super hot and I was sore from Monday. But I finished it off and ran a longer cool down for 10.

Tempo run workout today. We ran to the paved trail on University Ave as a warm up then started the tempo. I don't really know who I should be running with or exactly how fast I should go on tempo, but I went with the group that was going the longer loop. I didn't feel too good the first 2 miles and was wondering if I could make it the whole way. But then I felt stronger to push up with the girls. We ran 5 miles at 6:33 pace. Then I ran a long cool down with Mckenna to get 12 along the Provo River Trail.
