| Race: |
Oxy Invite (5K) (3.12 Miles) 00:16:35 | | Race day! Mile shake out, breakfast and nap/read/watch tv all day. I did a great job this race of really staying calm and relaxed. I didn't get nervous until we were warming up and I think that helped me to race well.My goal was to run 79's first mile then race hard. 2 mile warm up, few strides and we started. We had 30 girls in the heat (not as bad as last year) and I had a fabulous start. I got out and to the rail before the crowd merged off the turn and I wasn't boxed in or in lane 3. Hit first mile in 5:15 and it was starting to spread/gap. I was able to focus and close gaps and pass/respond pretty quick. I didn't sit behind people but tried to consistently keep moving up. The It factor kicked in real well this race and helped me to keep fighting and pushing past people. I felt like puking half way through and was tired and really wanted to beat the girls next to me. I had a great last lap and finishing kick.
I was very happy with my time but even more excited that I was able to really race. After the first mile, I forgot about splits and time and just raced hard. I feel really good about the performance I had and am really happy with it. Cool down of 3 miles and back to the hotel. I couldn't fall asleep for FOREVER so that will be rough next week catching up on sleep.

| | Usual workout of 1200's. Most of the team is done for the season so workouts are small in number. I am eternally grateful to Laura for volunteering to keep running workouts with me though she is done. I felt really tired today but took what I could get. Ran 3 and at 8's. Cool down to 10 then norma and ice bath. Ran 4 later.

| | Coach told me to split my long run again. I did 10 in the morning and 4 later. I met Laura bright and early at Liberty Park for a tempo. 2 mile warm up then a tempo run. I had a hard time getting moving but felt strong and consistent once the first mile was done. Ran 35 minutes and average of 6:40. Mile splits were 6:53, 6:32, 6:29, 6:26 and I didn't get the 5th one.

| | Workout was 25x400 at 83 with 30 seconds rest. Laura and I went after it and tried our darn best but it was hard. After 15 coach told us to the next one all out and we were done. I hit 71 (?) the last one and was grateful to be done. I was bummed not to run the whole darn thing but I was having a really hard time mentally- it almost felt clausterphobic to have so many darn laps to run and I was just fighting not to panic and stop. Coach dropped my miles to 55 this week and said to recover. Did norma and ice bath.

| | Following Coach's instruction: only 5 miles on Saturday. It gave me a taste of a break and I am excited for that in a week.

| | Morning mile shake out and usual race day routine- eat, sleep, read, nap, get ready to race. My race was scheduled for 9PM but before events started at the track, weather delays. It was the craziest wind/rain and thunder and lightning. Where our hotel was, we were in a tornado warning area and I was freaking out with the lightning and thunder (and spend a lot of time on the first floor of the lobby just to be safe...) We kept getting pushed back and pushed back. I was planning on running at 1AM when they annouced after 4 hours of delay, meet was suspended and new schedule to be announced soon. We went for a 3 mile run and it started pouring rain, but no tornado for us. Finishing the run, my stomach was killing and I felt awful. I ate something that did not sit well because I spent the next while in the bathroom and trying not to puke... yayy. We finally heard 10K was at 8AM and went to bed.
