Another crazy race day today. Ran 2 mile shake out and sat around at the meet waiting to run. Ran 3 miles warm up, drills and strides and back on the track to race with the same girls. My goal was to break the record but I knew this race would be much closer than the 3200. I took control and led for the first 3 laps. At the 800 and 1200 I was off by 3 seconds of where I wanted to be time wise. I could see on the screen the tight pack of 5 and I was running scared. On the gun lap, a girl moved in first and I didn't react quick enough. When I did, another girl slid into second so I was pushing with her and the lead girl gapped us by a stride or two. I ran the last lap pushing so hard and raced all the way to the finish. I was 3rd and less than a second behind the first girl. I was disappointed that I let 2 girls slip past me but it was a learning experience so I will be ready for state. I won the athlete of the meet award and ran the fastest 9 mile cool down ever- just to finally finish. It was a lot of track this weekend, but very memorable and I am excited for state! |
