Race day, ready or not. I did a mile shake out and felt okay this morning. My lungs felt clear and not as achy and tired. We did a 2 mile warm up and lotsa of strides (they fell behind schedule). I started out well- a 5:27 first mile, exactly like coach and I discussed to just see how I felt. Then I sat and didn't move soon enough. The race was split in 3 groups from the get go and I had girls to run with. But I was sitting on one girl and didn't realize we were slowing until it was too late. I passed her, caught another girl. I didn't know what pace I was running but I knew it was too slow and that was discouraging. I was able to close gaps on a few other girls. Again, I knew I would be slower and it made it hard to fight for it. I was able to outkick a girl down the home stretch but I was disappointed with the race. I started out well but got too comfortable running with the girls I was with. I should have moved sooner. I am just glad my lungs weren't too bad but my body was still tired. There's a long ways to go before outdoor racing.
